If you want to leave food at our house before the walk, please do.  We will  provide all drinks, hot or cold, and bread & cheeses.  Please bring your own couverts, including glasses.  A few small tables and chairs  would also be much appreciated.  We have some, but not enough if there are lots of you.

Anyone for Tennis?

THE GINALS (and WIMBLEDON) TENNIS TOURNAMENT AND BARBECUE

Come along to (another) fun afternoon of tennis and a barbecue at Dominic Eedle’s house on Sunday 8^th July starting after midday.

Everyone is welcome, as a player or a supporter. There are some old rackets available, but would suggest bringing your own if possible. Terry Cooper will be organising a mini-tournament of doubles, and will work out the pairings on the day.

It is also the Mens Final day at Wimbledon so anyone who wants to watch that can do so on the TVs upstairs.

There is also a lovely swimming pool, with shower and changing facilities available.

Dominic is also hosting the barbecue, providing the meat and jacket potatoes, bread and cheese, and wine/drinks; but you might like to provide a salad/ rice dish or a dessert, or both!

"L'Amazonie de Bolivie, le projet de protection de forêt humide tropicale"

L’Amazonie de Bolivie dans les Réserves naturelles des Départements de Madidi et de Pilon Lajas, près de la frontière péruvienne (à une heure en avion au sud-est de la capitale La Paz).

Pourquoi est-il de notre responsabilité de conserver l’Amazonie d' Amérique du Sud ? Quelles sont les enjeux pour le climat de la conservation de la plus grande forêt de notre globe ?Les forêts pluviales et les savanes d’Amazonie (Pampas) sont menacées. Durant ces vingt dernières années, une surface équivalente à la France a été détruite. Et cela ne va pas s’arrêter. La destruction des milieux naturels n’a jamais été aussi importante que pendant le 21e siècle.

La présentation est accompagnée d’un diaporama.
Pour accompagner cette manifestation, la médiathèque expose des documents sur l'Amazonie, ses richesses, ce qui la menace.

Le conférencier :
Erik Jongejan a travaillé en Amérique du Sud dans les Caraïbes depuis 2002 et s'est rendu plusieurs fois en Bolivie, Pérou, Suriname, Equateur, Guyane française, Brésil, Argentine, Venezuela et Colombie comme biologiste et touriste, avec des étudiants et des professeurs.

L'association :
Amazon Fund-France est une association indépendente. Elle s’intéresse à l'avenir de l’Amazonie. Les objectifs de AF-France sont l’éducation et la sensibilisation à l’environnement par des projets.

The Bolivain Amazon in the Nature Reserves of the departments of Madidi and de Pilon Lajas, near the Peruvian frontier (one hours flight south east from La Paz the capital).

Why is it our responsibility to Conserve the Amazon in South America? What are the stakes for the climate for the conservation of the biggest forest on the earth? The rain forests and pampas (Amazonian savannas) are threatened. During the last twenty years an area equivalent to France has been destroyed. And it isn’t going to stop. The destruction of the natural places in the 21^st century will be all the bigger.

The presentation will be accompanied by a slide show.

The mediatech will put in display documents on the Amazon its riches and its threats.

The presenter:
Erik Jongejean has worked in South America in the Caribbean since 2002 and has on many occasions visited Bolivia, Peru, Surinam, Equator, French Guyana, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, and Columbia as a biologist and a tourist, with students and professors.

The association:
Amazon Fund-France is an independent association. It is concerned with the future of the Amazon. Amazon Fund France's objectives are education and raising environmental consciousness by its projects.

The association is organising a trip to the indian country in the Bolivian Amazon, from the 6th to the 23rd of September 2012 (departing from Toulouse).
Destination: The region of Rurrenabaque, next to the  Rio Tuici and the indian villages of Balla and halalan.
Over the two weeks you will experience spring in 4 different exotic ecosystems. You will be able to see thousands of species of flowers, trees, birds like Hoatzins, Toucans, and Aras, reptiles, frogs, butterflies caimans dolphins anacondas monkeys lizards and more…

Trail des 3 Rocs - rando- walking version

If you want to do the walk for the 'trail of the 3 rocs' on Ascension Day they are looking for more people - it is 15 kms and goes up and down from St Antonin to the causse

In Memory of Christian Simon

The walking group raised 275 euro in memory of Christian Simon. Monick wishes to thank everyone for their generosity and support. She hopes that she will feel strong enough to join us again in April, when she will be  most welcome.

If anyone wants to buy eggs or sunflower seeds on Wed (or any Wed) please bring your money and egg cartons along and get them from Mimi.

Eggs €1.25 a for 6, could people please try to remember to bring egg boxes , I have some but they are scarce. Our eggs are completely free range and organic as we live on an organic farm.

Sunflower seeds for the birds €1 a kilo, organic and grown on our farm.

Sad News - Christian Simon

Christian Simon

Notre très bon ami Christian Simon a été tragiquement frappé par un accident vasculaire cérébral alors qu’il visitait son fils à Paris. Il est décedé le dimanche 19 février, entouré de sa famille, suite à une nouvelle attaque.

Nous présentons nos plus sincères condoléances à Monick et à toute sa famille pour cette cruelle disparition. Nous leur assurons notre grand soutien lors de ces si tristes circonstances. Nos pensées ainsi que nos prières les accompagnent.

Toutes les donations faites à la mémoire de Christian seront données à la récherche médicale, selon le choix de Monick. Helen et Karen vont coordiner la collecte pour le group de randonnée.


Tragically, our very good friend Christian Simon suffered a cerebral haemorrhage while visiting his son in Paris last week and subsequently died on Sunday 19th February following a further stroke, surrounded by his family.

We wish to extend our sincere condolences to Monick and family at their loss and also offer whatever support possible at this very sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.

I am organising a dinner for the walking group at L'Hirondelle St Cirq on Saturday 25th February.  Places are limited to 45 and bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis. Please contact me directly to reserve places.
Menu and price will be posted at a later date but the meal is likely to be apero, soup, crudites/charcuterie, roast beef or salmon steak, pastis (dessert rather like apple strudel), wine and coffee. I am hoping the price will be fixed as previously at 30 euro.
