Friday 5th Dec: I spoke with Dany (of Chez Dany fame) today. We agreed the following menu for Wednesday: Soup, jambom cru et crudites, roti de porc et pommes de terre, fromage, dessert, plus nibbles, aperos, wine, coffee and digestives as usual.

She is asking 17 euros per head, which is an increase on previously but, as regulars will know, she gives value for money.

If anyone wishes to pull out (or join in) please notify me by Monday lunch time AT THE LATEST.

14th October Cazals (7.5km) RV: Car park in front of the church, Cazals (6km from St Antonin on the D115 to Bruniquel, turn right over the blue bridge). Terrain: at first sloping, then flat before a descent to Cazals.
Afterwards: lunch at the Manjocarn.

21st October The Two St Amans (8km) RV 9.30 from the church at St Amans (D19 between St Antonin and Caylus, take the small road directly opposite the sign for the Chateau de Cas). Terrain: easy.

28th October Lasalle (9-10 km) RV 9,30 from the church at Lasalle (on the Caylus, Puylarogue road). Terrain: mixed.

Afterwards: lunch at Le Vieux Moulin, Puylarogue.

I am sure everyone will be wishing Nicole a safe journey and that her grand-daughter gets the best possible care in order to be fit and well again very soon.


Thanks too much to everybody for your welcome in the St Anton'walking group.
I will not be with you from the restarting in september and I regret really,
but our grand daughter Margaux, 20 years old, was affected middle of july by a CVA,
I think that the term "stroke" is now prefered in english. She is living near Lille,
close to the belgium border. So I stay in Caylus 2 weeks time and I move to the north for a week
in order to be with her, the situation is as follow:
Her speech is OK but inability to move the whole left side of her body (hemiplegia),
she need to be permanently on a wheelchair, and is incontinente.
She is from august 4th in a famous rehabilitation center near Lille.
Every day morning and afternoon she is under physical therapy, in order to try to
return to normal life but long time and courage will be necessary.
André will stay in Caylus during these periods with cat ( Duchesse ) and dog (Toupie).
See you soon and "bonnes promenades à tous".

BALADES EN AOÛT A ESPINAS

LES MERCREDIS à 9 HEURES : balade gratuite et accompagnée/commentée par des habitants. Bien noter les lieux de RDV Toujours bonnes chaussures, chapeau, boisson. Nota : les chiens sont admis mais tenus en laisse. Le SI décline toute responsabilité en cas d’accident. le 5/08 : RDV 9h à Espinas. Balade à Flouquet. Hameau exceptionnel ; accueil par les habitants (accueil lui aussi exceptionnel !). Terrain très reposant, chemin et petite route ; environ 6km.

le 12/08 Traditionnellement, journée au profit de la rénovation de l’église de CAS : rando +repas au château de Cas 12€ (s’inscrire avant le 9 au soir, SVP ! – auprès de nous ou des responsables : 05.63.67.06.53/05.63.24.09.92) . Balade : autour de Mordagne ; son four à pain : démonstration et dégustation….Départ : parking du château de Cas.

le 19/07 Nouveau circuit, grâce à nos amis britanniques de Vabre. Départ à 9h d’Espinas : Le Piboul, Vabre, Ginals, Barthe Redonde, Pech du Fournel… 8KM assez ombragés, faciles (bref passage caillouteux)
le 26/08 PR3, « Les sources de Caudesaygues », par Souretou ».Un peu plus long (10km) mais de si beaux points de vue !Et sans difficulté. En option : repas de fin de saison (10€ ; 8€ moins- de 14 ans ; s’inscrire avant le 23)
exceptionnellement le vendredi 28 : rando botanique + repas à la ferme: « les fruits, les baies et les herbes de l’été et de l’automne ».Animation proposée et animée par le botaniste Erik Jongejan, sur le domaine d’Audubert et alentours (parking au Domaine). Repas au domaine, avec des produits de la propriété,15€ vin compris. S’inscrire auprès de Erik ou au S.I avant le 26.

Some friends questioned us this Wednesday about dogs on the leash during the walks – a good question! The line about this on the program is a purely administrative step, just as well as the line on having an insurance. We have to mention both, rev. our own insurance company, in case any problem should occur . This being stated, I guess we are all clear-minded enough to know when a dog can be left free or not.

I am sure everyone will join me in saying "well done" to Martin for completing his latest cycle ride up the side of a mountain, and for raising a lot of money for two worthy causes.


Dear Friends

Le Col du Tourmalet - highest paved road over the Pyrenees, summit at just under 7,000 feet above sea level - sponsored cycle ride.

Tuesday morning, 16 June 2009, in low cloud, I cycled the 8 km. from the Hotel Les Sorbiers, Bareges down to the start line at Luz Saint Sauveur, with my riding partner David Lawson. As we climb at different speeds, David set off at 9.20 am and I followed at 9.45. I caught and passed David at about 3 km. and could see a group of riders ahead, but could not make progress on them. I caught them when they were slowed down at some road works and asked could I join them to the top for company. They were five members of the Saint Julien Cycle Club. I passed my hotel at Bareges at 10.30 am and shortly came out of the low cloud into bright sunshine. Linda passed me in the car, found a place to stop, took some photographs, took my empty bottle of high-energy drink and handed me another. Four of the cycle team had pulled away and I continued with the one that cycled at my rhythm. I had one small mishap, trying to take a drink going up a particularly steep section, not looking where I was going I nearly hit the back wheel of my French friend. Fearing I would touch his wheel, I veered away and took a tumble. He stopped and helped me up and I told him to carry-on. My wrist, knee and elbow were a little sore and I had grazed my thigh. I put the chain back on and set off again, catching my colleague after about 300 metres. We continued to about 3 km. from the top where I managed to stop his jacket from falling into his rear wheel. He stopped to re-tie it, so I turned round, went back 50 metres and then we continued again together. Linda had been back down the mountain to pick-up Julia who had been attending to David. She handed me another drink and the camera as cars were still not allowed up to the top. I reached the summit in 1 hour 59 minutes 23 seconds. I had cycled 19 km. and climbed 4,500 feet. I joined the French cycling team, we shook hands and sat and had a well earned drink together. After taking some photographs, I commenced the descent, meeting Linda and Julia at about 6 km. from the summit. I put the bike on the rack and joined the support team looking after David. The road was now open and we were at the top when David arrived.

To date I have raised 971 Euros to be shared between the Addenbrooke Hospital and Break Through Breast Cancer UK, hopefully with more to come. Many thanks to Linda and Julia, my excellent and attentive support team and to all of my kind sponsors. Also, well done to David.
